The Myth of Commercial Patterns and Dressmaking Course

This is a five week course starting with the first lesson dedicated to “The Myth of Commercial Patterns” lasting 1.5 hours where you will learn how to read the sleeve of a commercial pattern and understand how to calculate quantities of fabric for the size garment you wish to make.


Weeks 2 -5 will be the construction our skirt where we will be covering the following;


* Understanding fabrics, grain lines and seam allowances
* Working from a commercial a pattern
* Pattern cutting
* Pinning and cutting fabric
* Sewing seams
* Basic neatening of seams
* Inserting a zip
* Attaching a waistband
* Buttonhole
* Hemming


You will need to bring along your own choice of fabric, but not to be purchased prior to the first lesson where I will explain the different types of fabric in the Myth of Commercial Patterns.  The skirt pattern is included in the price of the course.


This course will run for 5 weeks as follows;


Week 1 - The Myth of Commercial Patterns: 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Week 2 – 5 The dressmaking course: 6:30pm to 9:00pm.


The cost of the course is £110.00 (This includes pattern but not materials).
